Pay-per-click and Keyword TipsGoogle AdWords is an online marketing tool that allows you, the advertiser, to specify the market you want to reach. Your ad only appears when someone uses a search term that corresponds to the keywords that you have selected.Another advantage to Google AdWords is that you only pay when someone clicks on your link, not just when your ad appears. You can also control your advertising budget by specifying the amount you want to spend per day. You can even specify the maximum amount you will spend for each click. This may reduce the number of times your ad is displayed, but it gives you complete control over your advertising budget. The most cost effective strategy is to use keyword phrases rather than single keywords. Jewelry, for example is a keyword that would have a lot of competition and, therefore, a higher cost per click. It would also attract a very broad market that may or may not be interested in what your business offers. Using a phrase match such as "sterling silver jewelry" or "sterling silver necklaces" would allow you to target your market more precisely. This method can help you not only minimize your cost per click, but also help you convert more of your website traffic into customers. Google AdWords includes another feature, negative keywords, that allows you to specify the market that you don't want. If someone enters a search phrase that uses the negative keywords you've listed, your ad will not appear as a result of that search. In your negative keyword list, you could, for example, list a product or a brand that you don't carry. If you want to reach a local or regional market, Google AdWords allows you to target your advertising by city, state, or region. With the ad targeting option, you can customize your own target area by choosing a geographic point and defining a surrounding radius of 20 miles or greater. You can also choose several geographic points to create a border that defines the area you want to target. You can link your ad directly to any page on your website. This Google AdWords option is an ideal solution for promoting a product, or selling it from your website, on a page that many of your website visitors might otherwise never see.
