Affiliate Programs:
Link Placement Strategies

Companies selling everything from candles to satellite systems have affiliate programs. So, you can easily choose a website theme that will be a good match.

With most affiliate programs, you will have several options for placing your links.

Most affiliate programs are very flexible in how you can promote the affiliate products.

Text links, placed within a body of text, can be very effective in giving you a higher clickthrough rate.

Another link placement strategy is to put them at the end of an article. You can also have a combination of links.

Banner links are, generally speaking, one of the least effective link strategies. That's because most website visitors are focused on the written content, not on what they perceive as ads.

Banner ads are also often unrelated to the subject matter of the site.

So, if you use banners, choose ones that closely match the content of the webpage on which they are placed.

Regardless of what method, or methods, you use in placing links, always monitor the performance of your website

You can then change the location and type of link you use, when the performance of your links show it's needed.

Just make sure that you don't make any changes to the affiliate code itself. In order to track and compensate you for your affiliate sales, the code must be exactly as specified by the affiliate program.

Many successful affiliates have numerous links of different types, all on the same page. Others devote an entire page to a single affiliate product, and with good results.

However, it's usually better not to focus all of your affiliate efforts with just one business. It can be tempting if the company and its products are excellent.

Always remember, though, that anything can happen. Companies go out of business or make changes to, or even cancel, their affiliate programs. That's why it's best to diversify.

Perserverance, as with any business, goes a long way in determining success.

Build your website content around what interests you. If you're interested, it will be that much easier to interest your visitors. It will also make the necessary time spent growing your affiliate business more enjoyable.
