3 Ways to Spend Less

Increasing revenue is great, but spending less on business expenses has the same effect on your bottom line.

Here are three ways to save money and, in some cases, increase your revenue at the same time:

Barter with other people in business.

Inventory can be exchanged for business cards and letterhead. Your services can be exchanged for other services you need, business equipment or supplies.

Join a bartering organization.

As a member of a barter club, you don't have to make direct exchanges, or even make an exchange at the same time.

You can earn trade credits and use them with anyone in the bartering group.

It's also a good way to attract clients for the long term.

If you have unused office space, or you're looking for space to rent for your business, share the overhead and get exposure to new clients at the same time.

Get a business roommate whose client base includes those who would be a likely market for your business.

Less overhead is good. Less overhead and new clients is even better.

Save on postage by combining mailings and using email whenever possible. Make it easy and inviting for your customers to switch from paper invoices to online invoices.

At the very least, it's less paper clutter for them. And it could easily save you hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars each year.

Quick Tips:

Enclose a business card promoting your website with each piece of outgoing mail.
Ask customers who frequently do business with you for a testimonial.
Promote your website URL offline on everything from bumper stickers to your answering machine message.
Want to reach the highest percentage of your target market?

Advertise in specialty publications including newspaper supplements devoted to a specific topic.
Marketing is crucial, but it doesn't always have to be serious.

Some of the most effective advertising campaigns rely on humor. Don't be afraid to make your customers laugh!
